Remaining Open
Reflections on the struggle but the urgency to remain open in these times…
Every day, we’re given a choice — to open, or to close.
In our daily interactions, our relationships, in our responses, in what we witness and consume — at home, online, on the street and, in the wider world. Everyday we witness the horrendous brutalities of the world, the suffering, the grief, the injustice — it’s overwhelming.
What we’re seeing right now is shaking the ground beneath us and it’s brings up so many deep questions and a fear for the future of humanity. And for many of us, our wee hearts are just breaking. But still, we CAN choose to remain open.
In a world where it almost feels brave to feel, I choose to hope, to stay with the heart and to choose to radiate love — even when it hurts.
Yes, I’m aware that it’s a privilege to be able to do that and I sometimes struggle with the shame of that. But if you have the privilege, don’t waste it. We NEED to take action. And one way to take action is to remain open.
Of course, its not always possible but I know that if I let my spirit break, I can’t be of service. And so I keep praying. I keep hoping. I keep looking to nature and I hold gratitude for life.
Did you know your heart’s electromagnetic field is 4,000 times stronger than that of any other organ? That means the energy you send from your heart, even in silence, can be felt. It ripples. It matters. It heals.
You can change your day (or even someone else’s) just be placing a hand on the heart, closing the eyes and breathing into it. Try it now!
Choosing to be open is an act of rebellion. F*ck the fear. Please, rebel. We can be angry at the system, but still be kind and still spread love.
I’ve seen so much shaming around how people are choosing to respond (or not) to the pain in the world and for me, it just creates more separation and more fear. This isn’t about bypassing the suffering that others are experiencing — but fear and disconnection keeps us small.
Stay open. Stay kind. Be loving. Be hopeful.
